Copper, mined in the deserts of Arizona, dressed in a thick roof forms that appear to float above indoor and outdoor living. Earth crashed into a wall made of soil excavated from the site rise from the desert floor echoes the form of the surrounding mountains. The result is a house that really is consistent with and expressive of the site’s unique place in the world.
house divided into two zones, one 4300 sf. residence for the owner, two lifestyles that require very low maintenance, and another zone for the extended family and friends who visit the Arizona sun often. While many of the houses around echo the theme of the last century European culture far away from this house to speak to a certain place in the Sonoran Desert. Form is not reduced by the constraint force but by the forces of climate programs and forms of this house. Solid wall of earth and concrete blocks from the harsh desert sun and the view of the surrounding structures. Almost invisible line of glass, shaded by the overhang in, detailing the boundaries between life inside and outside the room, with a focus on near and distant views of nature and the wonders of the city lights in the distant valley. Planar form of a folded roof to capture rain water and spread to the surrounding vegetation.Via
